The Fairy-Tale like Gardens By the Bay (Singapore)
Singapore is one of those places that if you like photography (honestly even if you don’t) you are going to have a tough time putting your camera down. Everywhere you look you find something else that you just “have” to capture. By far the most captivating of those places is the Gardens by the Bay. We were both in awe of how beautiful the structures and plants were throughout the grounds. It is truly something special.
What is Gardens by the Bay?
The Gardens by the Bay are probably exactly what you think, a garden near the bay but it is so much cooler then the name lends itself. There are many different things to do through the grounds both free and paid. Keep and eye out for unique events throughout the year for something extra special. The main attractions are the outdoor gardens, cloud forest, flower dome and probably the more iconic OCBC Skyway.
Tickets are $28 SGD for both the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, open 9am to 9pm. If you buy your tickets at the airport you can save a few bucks. Otherwise, just buy them when you arrive.
The OCBC skyway is $8 SGD per person, open from 9am to 9pm, weather pending. Unfortunately, it closes with any possibility of rain which is quite often. Tickets also often sell out so you might want to do this first.
The main outdoor grounds are free to wander but trust me you will want to go into the conservatories. The grounds are open from 5am to 2am.
How to get there?
You can take public transit, a taxi, ridesharing or walk. It is however slightly more confusing to get in walking then you would think. Located directly behind the hotel Marina Bay Sands you an take a bridge from the hotel which is called the Lions bridge or the underground MRT pathway from the Bayfront station. (We tried walking around the hotel- I wouldn’t recommend this!) You can also get in from the helix bridge, there is a footpath under the East Coast Parkway to the Gardens. If you take transit get off at the Bayfront station on the circle or downtown lines.
How long do you need/ When should I go?
How long you spend at the gardens will greatly depend on how many pictures you take or how much you like looking at various plants and flowers. We spent most of an entire day there from about 1 pm to 9 pm. The average person likely spends about 3 hours to see it all. We would recommend heading over in the afternoon to make sure you get to see everything the mist and also the light show.
The cloud forest sprays a mist on the hour every two hours, it is worth checking out if you can make it work. The times are; 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, and 8pm. The awesome light show at 7:45 and 8:45 in the supertree grove area, it is completely free and 100% worth attending.
